Start with Starting.

…I think.

Often times, the trouble with writing is knowing where to start.

I’m staring at my laptop right now unsure of where to start.

When I get into a conversation with a friend or colleague, I feel incredibly locked in to my interests and ideas but when it’s time to write, it’s as if a vacuum sucked anything worth writing about out of my head.

So, I’ll start here. With starting.

Start with starting.

If you want to write a book but don’t know what to write about, start writing.

If you want to make the basketball team but don’t know how to play basketball, start playing basketball.

Honestly, you may not write the book; and you may not make the basketball team. I’m not here to tell you that you will accomplish what you set out to do.

But, who is to say that something magical won’t happen?

Who is to say that by starting the process of writing that book, you won’t go to the library to do some research and meet an old woman who tells you an amazing story of her childhood that reminds you of your mother, whom you love but never call, and inspires you to call your mother more? Is that not powerful?

Who is to say that by starting to play basketball, you won’t go to the park down the street and find a quarter from 1952 that inspires you to research American History before 1952 leading you to find out that your great grandfather was an oil tycoon, and that you’re heir/heiress. Is that not powerful/unrealistic?

Also, let’s also not forget, you very well may write the book.

And maybe the team can use someone like you.

Maybe the world can.

We just need you to start.
